The Matson Museum of Anthropology is run by the Department of Anthropology at Pennsylvania State University and aims to share with visitors all the wonders and discoveries that the field of anthropology can yield. See displays of ancient items from places as far away as the Middle East and as close as Pennsylvania itself. Museum-quality displays cover the narratives of stories like commerce in Native American groups and the development and uses of Jydepotter pottery created in the Jutland Peninsula, with rotating exhibitions offering something different at every visit. Located on the second floor of the Carpenter Building, the museum is close to the easily recognizable Nittany Lion Shrine on the northwest side of the campus.
